and the Gulls Cry …

On a recent trip to St. Augustine I found these great, big pink barnacles, and was inspired by masses of  sea gulls and how smart and beautiful they really are when they aren’t stealing your sandwich.  I came home and made little sea gulls that were going to LEAP out of the barnacles like ocean fairies inside an abalone shell my friend gave me.  So I did.  But it didn’t feel finished so it sat here on the shelf with the other rejected artwork.

Lately,  finding the need to get back to meditation, in my recent times of downsizing and taking on new responsibilities, I’ve found it difficult to allow myself the time to just chill out.  And if I did gift myself a half hour, then I couldn’t do it.

I recently had fun playing with chinese fortune telling sticks (of sorts) more like Tao pulls on reeds while chicken sitting, and had the ability to calm it down.  What a relief!

As I sat the other night in this living room, looking at things to pack or discard, here sat this little ridiculous gull thing up on the shelf with this circus crow couple that has never found its way down of my shelf. It came to me… I decided to turn it into my own OSHO version of the pulling sticks.  I went ahead, and meditated, held the piece, stopped working for the night.  I pulled 22 cards from my Zen Tarot Osho deck, and went ahead and used what i got in this reading, to write on the back of the gulls.  I wrote things I would later understand.

I decided I will pull a gull each week for 22 weeks.  That gull hosts the words, focus, intention for my quiet time focus, and mindless journaling. I just thought i would share it !
